Red Mercury and Gargoyle Girlfriend Deliver Dark, Driving New Single ‘People are to Love’
The London electronic duo Red Mercury, made up of producer Steve Gregory and vocalist Isobel Crawford, have released their latest single, ‘People are to Love’. Blending drum & bass, techno, and wide-ranging electronic sounds, they’re known for heavy bass, sharp vocal hooks, and strong storytelling. Their music shifts easily from high-energy club tracks to more reflective moments, and they’re building a following through DJ sets in the UK and Asia.
‘People are to Love’ features Hong Kong producer and DJ Gargoyle Girlfriend (Rachel McInerney), whose light vocals and cyberpunk-inspired lyrics fit well with Red Mercury’s hardware-driven sound. The song explores the excitement and uncertainty of arriving in a new city, inspired by Rachel moving from the U.S. to Hong Kong and Steve moving from Australia to London. Made mostly with Red Mercury’s modular synths, the track blends strong techno energy with progressive house layers, drawing comparisons to BT, Boris Brejcha, and Sub Focus.
The collaboration started early last year when Rachel found Red Mercury on Instagram and asked to use their music in a festival set. Their shared interest in sci-fi themes and modern electronic sounds soon led to a remote partnership that came together easily. The finished single keeps a steady dancefloor energy and creates a vivid, nighttime city atmosphere.
Throughout ‘People are to Love’, the track feels focused and well put together. The modular synth rhythms and deep bass support the vocals, allowing the progressive builds to rise without losing direction. The hardware sound is raw but balanced, and Gargoyle Girlfriend’s vocals bring extra emotion to the song. This is Red Mercury’s best example so far of mixing club energy with storytelling, and with another collaboration on the way, it looks like they’re just getting started.
