Jack Rose is a singer-songwriter as well as a charismatic television presenter. His honeyed and cheerful vocals, paired with Pearse Dunne’s upbeat but casual flow make this track a certified banger in our books. We chatted with the ‘On My Mind’ producers below.
Please describe your sound for us.
Pearse Dunne: I think it’s clear the piano is my favourite instrument as it features in almost all of my tracks. I make deep house and piano house music.
Jack Rose: My sound has changed so much over the years I’ve gone from pop, rap, RnB to house. I would say I’m versatile and can’t be pinned down to a specific sound.
How did it all start for you?
Pearse Dunne: I first began making music in 2014. I had been very interested in some other artists coming from Ireland around that time and had an obsession with house music. The only way forward was to explore music production myself.
Jack Rose: I was 13 years old and I entered a competition to sing at Her Majesty’s Theatre in London which I won and was so happy about! I recorded a cover of ‘I Just Haven’t Met You Yet’ by Michael Buble and I really enjoyed the vibe of being in the studio. I started going more and eventually started writing and releasing my own music and 7 years later I couldn’t be happier !!
Which three artists would you say made you want to create your own music?
Pearse Dunne: MK, Gorgon City, RobbieG.
Jack Rose: I grew up listening to a lot of Eminem so I was inspired to rap like him but I loved Bruno Mars and Ed Sheeran when I was younger. I would now say I’m influenced by people such as Joel Corry, 24k Goldn, and Post Malone.
What is your go-to gear/equipment when creating?
Pearse Dunne: Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro, Fl Studio 20, Presonus Eris 3.5BT.
Jack Rose: I love just singing into a microphone in the studio, it’s my favourite part, there is something so therapeutic about it.
What are some of your key influences in your music? Whether it be the sound created by others, imagery, films or any kind of art form.
Jack Rose: I try to write music from the heart and what I think is right. I also take experiences I have had in my life; I’ve written songs about break ups, relationships and just having a good time. I don’t wanna portray a different person from what I am in my music.
What is one sub-genre you think doesn’t get the attention it deserves?
Pearse Dunne: Piano House – my all time favourite genre.
Any new or upcoming artists on your radar?
Pearse Dunne: AK47, Ev Wilde, Robin Tayger.
Jack Rose: I listen to a lot of rap music and I recently came across an artist from Canada Called Dom Vallie whose most recent single ‘BEEN HIMMA’ is popping off. I also think we’ve got a lot of young artists coming through on the scene such as The Kid Laroi, Hazey, A1 X J1 giving it a youthful spin in the music industry.
What single night out has been the most memorable for you? As a performer? As an attendee?
Pearse Dunne: In 2019 I performed at BCM Planet Dance in Magaluf. I’ll never forget the feeling before going in, it’s one of the biggest nightclubs in the world and it was packed full of people. I had a rush for days after that gig, which has motivated me to keep going with my music career.
Jack Rose: I went to go see Bruno Mars at the O2 arena when I was younger and it was one of the most incredible live performances I have ever seen. He makes it look so flawless and effortless to be an incredible vocalist as well as an entertainer
What can we expect from you in the near future? Any upcoming projects in the pipeline that you would like to tell us about?
Pearse Dunne: I have been working on two very exciting projects with Swedish producer Robin Tayger. I’ve also got two or three singles ready to be signed which I am very excited to release.
Jack Rose: I can’t reveal too much of course but I have a few projects that I’m working on at the moment which should take up most of the year. I run a business as well as being a musician, and I’m working to expand out even further this year. I’m really trying to smash it out a lot more this year and get even further as we start moving out of the pandemic.
Famous last words?
Jack Rose: “I’m not really feeling this ”. As a young artist, I have missed out on so many opportunities over the years and missed huge chances due to my own stupidity.
