The Women Innovating Electronic Music’s Future

Electronic Music is a genre historically dominated by male Artists, DJs and Producers, yet steadily deciding to take the reins and make their mark are the women who continue to define the genre’s future, directing it towards a more inclusive space where gender is disregarded, and talent takes precedence. As the next chapter for Electronic Music continues to reveal a refreshing wave of female DJs and Producers, their presence is not just reshaping the industry but also challenging long-standing norms, proving that innovation and artistry know no gender boundaries.  

With International Women’s Day upon us, we are taking the time to celebrate some of the talents making waves within the genre, looking at their individual journeys and ongoing impact on the scene today.  

Kinder 

The Ghanaian-Australian sister duo Kinder have been steadily on the rise within the Electronic Dance Music scene, delivering a unique blend of emotive storytelling and club-ready energy. With a string of dynamic collaborations, creative mashups, and memorable live performances, they continue to bring a fresh and distinctive edge to the community, delivering music that resonates globally. 

With a signature style that displays their rich global influences, crafting tracks that push for innovation whilst remaining heavily rooted in the Afro House genre, it is no surprise the duo has garnered the attention of industry VIPs like Keinemusik and Diplo, among others, and secured to spots at top festivals including Splendour In The Grass, Listen Out, Spilt Milk, and Dark Mofo. As their journey sustains its promise, recently taking them to release their latest single, ‘Still The Same’ on Warner Music Australia, Kinder is sure to maintain momentum: on an upward trajectory towards the forefront of the Electronic Music scene.

Avi Sic  

A passionate force within the genre, Avi Sic has established herself as a noteworthy fixture on the Chicago music scene and beyond, continuing to raise the bar with each performance and studio production. From top releases on labels like Hexagon’s Generation Hex, Revealed, Spinnin’ Records, and Mentalo, to working alongside brands like Google, Nike, and Red Bull, her career continues to cultivate an ever-developing string of highlights. With support from industry titans like Don Diablo, Martin Garrix, and Diplo, her influence is continuing to grow, cementing her reputation as a dynamic and forward-thinking artist, consistently pushing boundaries with her sound and creative ventures.  

As she continues to expand her discography with both original productions and distinctive remixes, Avi Sic has recently returned with an official rework of Bexxi & Yurie‘s track ‘Sacrifice.’ The release, coming as part of an all-female remix album, serves to commemorate International Women’s Day, showcasing and celebrating the array of female talent within the genre all the while reinforcing the skill and originality that grounds her approach and continues to push her name further forward on the Electronic Music scene.

Angel City 

A returning talent to the Electronic Dance Music space, UK-based Artist Lara McAllen, better known as Angel City, has re-emerged after a decade-long break, seeking to bring her distinct signature style to genre enthusiasts once more. Having made a name for herself with top charting success on the UK & US Dance Music charts in the early 2000s, she appears reenergised by her passion, blending her unique vocals with Melodic House and Trance energy. As she continues to carve out her sonic identity, offering a signature style defined by its authenticity, she draws on personal experiences, bringing deeply evocative messages and introspective lyricism through her music, with the aim to connect with listeners and deliver refreshing depth to the landscape of Electronic Music.  

Marking the start of her next chapter, Angel City recently released ‘STARS’ via Coldharbour Recordings, teaming up with DJ T.H. and ReDub to show off her talents and refined artistry, delivering a soaring, emotionally charged anthem that further showcases the power of female talent and reinforces the importance of representation in the industry.

Alfiya Glow 

With a background in Classical music, Alfiya Glow’s originality shines through in her Organic House tracks; weaving powerful violin lines through dynamic electronic arrangements, she offers music that stands out on the scene, continuing to put forward the boundary-pushing approach that grounds her artistry.  

Now, she has founded her own label, CosmycGlo Records, fuelled by her commitment to championing female artists and her determination to maintain full ownership and creative control over her music. With her trajectory sure to lead to more exciting moments, she is not only shaping her own path but also paving the way for more women to take power within the industry.

Jaki Nelson 

Jaki Nelson too has become a strong voice on the Electronic Music scene, securing her place as a two-time Top 10, four-time Billboard-charting Dance artist. Having opened for Artists like Kehlani, Hayley Kiyoko, and Kiesza, along with performing at top events like NY & LA Fashion Week, LA Pride, and Vegas Pride, her growing reputation as a talented performer continues to elevate her status, seeing her seamlessly blend vocals, energy, and visual presence.  

From amassing 30 million streams and garnering the support of R3HAB, Martin Garrix, Jonas Blue, and Sam Feldt, among others, there is no denying that she is leaving an imprint on the scene, not just with numbers and accolades, but with a signature sound that speaks to genre enthusiasts worldwide.

Lady Decibel 

As key advocates for diversity, inclusivity, and equality in Electronic Music, House Music duo Lady Decibel are also making a distinct contribution to the scene, using their platform to push the genre toward a more representative and forward-thinking future. Known for their 90s and 2000s-inspired Dance music, they deliver hard-hitting sounds to listeners whilst also working to ensure that the genre’s next chapter brings more visibility and opportunities for all.  

Having only started their journey last year, the duo continues to sustain their creative focus, leaning on their inspirations to craft fresh-sounding music whilst pushing forward with their pursuit of LGBTQ+ representation and inclusivity across the dancefloor.

As Electronic Music continues to evolve, the presence of women in the industry is steadily growing, with Artists, Producers, and DJs continuing to make significant contributions across the scene.
